Overview



What is Viterbi Impact?

Viterbi Impact connects USC Viterbi students to volunteer opportunities through the Viterbi K-12 STEM Center and local community organizations. From helping youth get passionate about STEM to tree planting projects in the inner city. Viterbi Impact offers a variety of opportunities and will help you find an opportunity that matches your interest!

How do I get Involved?

Depending on your interest and availability, we try to match you with something that works best for you!


Viterbi Impact Program

Students that participate in the Viterbi Impact Program commit to serving 20 hours during the semester with Viterbi K-12 STEM Center program or a local community organizations. Viterbi Impact Program Volunteers also participate in personal and professional growth activities and reflection exercises.


Friends & Neighbors Day

Every month Viterbi participates in the USC Volunteer Center's "Friends & Neighbors Day". Volunteer projects include packaging boxes of food for food insecure residents to tree planting in the inner city. Invitations to register are sent out closer to the event date. Transportation and lunch are provided!


One-Time Volunteer Events

Throughout the semester we need volunteers to help with a variety of projects including robotics competitions, food pantries, high school visits, and much more. Feel free to sign up when you see something you like!

Program Components


Viterbi Impact participants are expected to complete specific pre-requisites and program activities. 



Workshops & Training

Viterbi Impact Program participants attend workshops to focus on personal and professional development. Volunteers working directly with youth are also expected to complete a "Mandated Reporter" Training. 


Background Check & TB Clearance

Volunteers who work with youth will be required to complete a Live Scan, fingerprint-based, background check and may be asked to complete a TB Clearance. 


Reflective Writing Exercises

Viterbi Impact Volunteers will engage in reflective writing to process their service experiences and make connections between engineering and societal issues. 


Mid-Semester Check-In

The VIP Coordinator will host open office hours and/or schedule appointments for students to discuss their experience, progress, and potential challenges at their service site.


Viterbi Impact Socials

Viterbi Impact is a community, our social is a way to further solidify the bonds between volunteers while having fun at a local attraction. 


End of Semester Celebration

It's a time to celebrate each volunteer's accomplishments and personal growth.
